Back Door Slam - New York, NY - 2008-03-27

Back Door Slam. Mercury Lounge, New York, NY, March 27, 2008.

I hit this show as a favour to a friend. Glad I did. This guys were heavy!

Here is a review written by someone who taped the show:

This Was My First Time At The Mercury Lounge So I Did Not Know What To Expect, Also This Was My First Time Seeing Back Door Slam!......All In All Everything Went Perfect As Far As The Performance And Recording.

A Little History About Back Door Slam...

Hailing From The United Kingdom's Tiny Isle Of Man, Is A Supercharged Blues-Rock
Band Called Back Door Slam, Fronted By Davey Knowles Who Some Say Is The Best Guitarist To Come Out Of UK Since Clapton, His Abilities And Maturity On Guitar Are Far Ahead Of His Years, You Would Swear This Band Had 10 Years On The Road Together, They Are Tight, Well Oiled Machine Here, And Davey Knowles Who Sounds Like, Clapton, Stevie Ray, Albert King, Rory Gallagher, BB King All Rolled Into One Is Really Tasty On Guitar, Some Say This Band Sounds Like The Reincarnation Of cream, Or Hendrix At Times..I Agree

For All The Rory Gallagher Fans, This Guy Pays Big Respect, Said During The Show One Of His Guitars Was Owned By Rory Gallagher!

Davey Knowles: Guitar/vocals
Adam Jones: Bass
Ross Doyle: Drums

Setlist:

1: Intro
2: Outside Woman Blues
3: Heavy On My Mind
4: Gotta Leave
5: Riding With The King
6: Too Good For Me
7: Come Home
8: Tear Down The Wall
9: Almost Cut My Hair
10: It'll All Come Around
11: What In The World
12: Hometown

It looks like Back Door Slam has hung it up, which would be a shame. They weren't groundbreaking by any means but damn they cooked...

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony - New York, NY - 2008-03-10

The 23nd annual induction ceremony took place at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York City on March 10, 2008. The inductees and their performances (or artists who performed for them) included:
  • Gamble & Huff, who were inducted and represented in performance by Jerry Butler
  • Little Walter, inducted by Ben Harper who then performed with James Cotton
  • Leonard Cohen, inducted by Lou Reed with Damien Rice performing
  • The Ventures, inducted by John Fogerty, who also played with them
  • Madonna, inducted by Justin Timberlake and represented musically by The Stooges...see above...
  • John Mellencamp, inducted by Billy Joel and represented himself musically
  • The Dave Clark Five, inducted with feewing by Tom Hanks and represented sonically by Joan Jett

It was such a treat to go to this show, so much more enjoyable than the Grammys. I realized why: the Grammys are a celebration of the flavour of the day, the Hall of Fame (supposedly) represents that music that stood the test of time.

And I don't care, I thought the Madonna/Stooges thing was brilliant.
